Introducing… Suzanne Faria

Today is your chance to meet Suzanne Faria.

Suzanne has had a rich and creative career as a drama therapist and child psychotherapist. An avid reader and writer, Suzanne found her inspiration when writing for children. She is passionate about writing dynamic stories that give a voice to children who have been through tough times and that build empathy and understanding in every reader. Suzanne lives in the Cotswolds with her family and cats. When not writing, she loves walking in nature, or you might find her lindy hopping on the dance floor.

What is your writing routine?

Currently rather random, but as soon as I am writing I get so absorbed I forget about everything else.

Who is your favourite author and how have they inspired you?

I have many favourites including David Almond, Patrick Ness, Lucy Strange, Emma Carroll, Onjali Q Rauf, Susanna Bailey, Jasbinder Bilan, Elizabeth Laird, Siobhan Dowd - I could go on and on! I was lucky enough to have Mel Darbon as my manuscript tutor and her YA contemporary novels are a huge inspiration for me as she writes with such insight and sensitivity in telling her compelling stories.

What was the inspiration for your manuscript?

The initial idea was thinking about displaced siblings who only had each other - then the characters' names just came to me, along with their current situation.

Who is your favourite character in your book?

My protagonist, Daxton.

What inspires you first: character or plot?

Definitely character.

Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would include sea swimming, being in nature, having a cosy pub lunch, lazing about reading, then going out dancing.
